Consulting - Virtualisation
As businesses grow they inevitably require more server infrastructure to support various systems including email, CRM, file servers and more. Typically this involves significant investment in new hardware, power and support; virtualisation can reduce this requirement by hosting several separate isolated operating systems on one physical machine. Virtualisation technology can also be used to reduce existing support and power costs by scaling down existing server room size and hardware. This all sounds great, and it can be, but the road to virtualisation needs some careful planning and preparation. Virtualisation still requires disciplined patching and change management procedures and an unstable application will still be an unstable application whether it is hosted physically or virtually. Some applications do not lend themselves to a virtual environment yet others are ideal. With the right planning and implementation virtualisation can bring great benefits and deliver new functionality that assists in several areas. |
